Restoring and Reimagining Heritage

As the architect-in-charge of Fort Canning, collaborated with conservation and park planning experts on sensitive restoration of the area.

As one of Singapore’s two National Parks, Fort Canning Park has a long history, and has become a much-loved space for leisure and events.

In recent years, sensitive restoration of heritage gardens and public spaces has enhanced pedestrian connectivity within and around the park, and highlighted the park’s significance by retracing and enlivening the layered histories of Fort Canning Park, across the 14th, 19th, and 20th centuries.

Enhancement works include the permanent pedestrianisation of a portion of Canning Rise road, to connect Fort Canning Park’s Farquhar Garden and Fort Canning Green seamlessly, and create a pedestrian-friendly environment within the park.

The revitalised park also formed the staging grounds for the hugely popular Singapore Bicentennial Showcase, attracting more than 760k visitors in 2019, and culminating in a permanent showcase in Fort Canning Centre.
