From Orchard to Singapore River
Imaginative longer-term proposals for key green and blue spaces in Singapore’s city centre, conceptualised as the architect-in-charge of Dhoby Ghaut, together with city planners of adjacent areas and experts in park and road design.
As part of ongoing plans to enhance Orchard Road as a lifestyle destination and to ‘Bring Back the Orchard’, Singapore’s signature street is envisioned to be transformed into a lush green corridor by introducing new green spaces and lush planting. It will form part of a 6-kilometre long green connection linking key historic green and blue spaces in the city centre – Singapore Botanic Gardens, Istana, Fort Canning Park, and Singapore River.

A key idea includes pedestrianising a section of Orchard Road to allow the existing 1.3ha Istana Park to be better integrated with commercial establishments in the Dhoby Ghaut sub-preceint. This will combine the current Istana Park, Dhoby Ghaut Green, and Penang Road Open Space together to create a new space that can more than triple in size, to form a green oasis in the city.

Following well-received public exhibitions, studies to implement the plans are underway with the future enhancements highly-anticipated by members of the public.
